Join our Walking School Bus to Sakamoto Elementary School!
Dear Parents,
On the next Walk to School Day on Tuesday May 21st, please join a walking group!
A committee of Sakamoto parent volunteers has been working with the City of San José to implement a program called “Walk n’ Roll San Jose!”. The goal of this program is to encourage more families to get out of their cars and walk to school in safe groups led by a volunteer parent who is the “bus driver”. This will cut down on the congestion during school drop off and make our neighborhood streets more pedestrian friendly.
We have created several walking routes.
You can join families walking along the routes with the estimated leave time noted on route maps. Ultimately, we would like parents from Sakamoto Elementary School to volunteer to take turns leading groups of students --- a walking school bus -- to school on Walk to School Days.
Part of the assistance needed is helping us rate the routes using a “Walkability Checklist” located at http://www.saferoutesinfo.org/sites/default/files/walkabilitychecklist.pdf.
If you have questions or need more information, please contact Maureen Gallagher with the Walk n’ Roll San Jose! Program at (408) 975-3731,
maureen.gallagher@sanjoseca.gov or if you should have any further questions please contact
Sakamoto parent Veronica Hansen at hansenfamily2000@yahoo.com.
